Conover Hunt named Deputy Director of Fort Monroe FADA

Fort Monroe, Virginia

Bill Armbruster, Executive Director of the Fort Monroe FADA announced today that Conover Hunt, a consultant to the FMFADA has accepted the permanent position of Deputy Director. Armbruster adds, "Ms. Hunt was the ideal choice because she served as the interim director for ten months and is familiar with all aspects of the reuse planning. Conover's experience with historic preservation is a skill set that will take us into the future as we find new uses for the historic assets at Fort Monroe."

A native of Hampton, Conover holds a BA in Art History cum laude from Newcomb College, Tulane University, where she was named a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. In 1971 she graduated with an MA in Early American Culture from the Winterthur Museum Program at the University of Delaware.

During her 35-year career, Ms. Hunt has spent most of her professional life living in other places. Hunt adds, "Being a part of Fort Monroe’s future and working toward a major history center in my own hometown is a rare privilege in my professional life."

As a national consultant Ms. Hunt has worked on major destination museums in many parts of the United States, including the Sixth Floor, site of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas. She has shared her expertise with more than 40 governmental and non profit agencies, has published seven books, and lectures widely on cultural management, American history and art, historic preservation, tourism development and the interpretation of American material culture.
