Virginia Delegate Glenn Oder named executive director of Fort Monroe AuthorityThe Republic By The Associated Press August 9, 2011 HAMPTON, Va. - The Fort Monroe Authority board has appointed Virginia Delegate Glenn Oder as its new executive director. Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Oder's appointment Tuesday, calling the Newport News Republican a "proven leader and visionary who is personally vested" in Fort Monroe's success. The governor's office says Oder will resign from the House of Delegates effective Aug. 31. Oder served nine years in the General Assembly. At Fort Monroe, Oder will replace Bill Armbruster, who headed the authority since 2008. Armbruster announced earlier this year he was retiring once the historic Hampton fort on the Chesapeake Bay is transferred to state control. The Army is scheduled to vacate the site and turn it over to the state on Sept. 15. Virginia officials want the 565-acre site to become a national park. |
