Board to hear "positive development" on Fort Monroe park

HAMPTON - The board of the Fort Monroe Authority is to discuss a "positive development" related to ongoing discussions over a potential National Park at Fort Monroe at a meeting on Aug. 9.

The news to be announced next Tuesday follows talks with the National Park Service on the size of a footprint of a potential National Park at Fort Monroe. The Fort Monroe Authority's preferred footprint is larger than that so far supported by the park service. No further details were available, Thursday.

"Due to a new positive development with regards to continuing discussions with the National Park Service, the chair must call a special meeting of the Fort Monroe Authority to address these National Park Service developments and a personnel issue, " the Fort Monroe Authority announced.

The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. at Williamsburg Lodge on South England Street in Williamsburg.

The personnel issue is believed to related to the replacement of Bill Armbruster who is retiring as the authority's executive director.
