Fort Monroe announces Regatta road closures
The Army details gate and road closures during the big event on Aug. 14 and 15

HAMPTON – The Army has announced a number of road and gate closures during the Hampton Cup Regatta on Aug. 13-15.
The Mercury Bridge will close at 8:30 a.m., on Aug. 12 for setup of equipment, vendors and bleachers. It will remain closed until 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Ingalls Gate will remain open each race day for only for vehicles with Department of Defense stickers. The Army recommends that residents and post workers use this entrance to access Fort Monroe.
McNair Gate will be open for all event traffic. It will be closed for outbound traffic on Aug. 12, 13 and 16 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Outbound traffic will be detoured from McNair Drive to Ingalls Road to leave Fort Monroe.
Stilwell Gate will be open to pedestrian traffic only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 13-15. All pedestrians (above 18 years of age) must have a picture ID to enter the post, said Fort Monroe spokeswoman Stephanie Slater. Event visitors who are age 17 and younger must have an adult sponsor to enter Fort Monroe.
Bicycles will be allowed entrance through Stilwell Gate. A helmet and reflective vest are required for all individuals on bikes. Skateboarders also must wear helmets.
Participants in the regatta are allowed to use all-terrain vehicles and golf carts to and from the pit area and along the Mercury Bridge. Passengers are limited to the number of seats in the vehicle and must wear all required safety equipment.
Vehicles pulling boats must use McNair Gate. Traffic will be routed along Fenwick Road to designated parking areas at Walker Airfield.
Fort Monroe will not provide shuttle bus transportation.
Stilwell Road will be closed from Eustis Lane to Pullman Drive from noon, Aug. 12 until 1:30 p.m., Aug. 16.
Northgate Road will be closed from just past the Building 59 parking lot to Stilwell Road from 6 a.m., Aug. 12 until 1:30 p.m., Aug. 16.
What's a regatta?
The 84th Annual Hampton Cup Regatta is a powerboat race on the Hampton River with teams from the United States, Canada and New Zealand. Admission is free.
