Fort Monroe Authority executive director to step down later this year

HAMPTON

The executive director of the Fort Monroe Authority will step down later this year, according to a news release.

Bill Armbruster announced Friday at an executive committee meeting that he will leave his position shortly after Sept. 15.

He has managed the transfer of the Fort Monroe National Historic Landmark District from the U.S. Army to the state since 2008.

Armbruster was deputy assistant secretary of the Army before joining the Fort Monroe Authority.
