The former Chamberlin Hotel, at Fort Monroe, has reopened its waterfront veranda and dining room to the public for the first time since 2004 and is taking reservations for weddings and other events.

Now called The Chamberlin, the historic hotel in Hampton underwent a four-year, $54 million renovation and reopened last year as an upscale apartment complex targeted to seniors. The current hotel structure, built in 1928, and its predecessors have served as a resort for dignitaries and top military officers for almost 190 years.

The renovation included refurbishment of original features including tiling, crown molding and lighting. The 1,000-square-foot Chesapeake Dining Room features the original, restored hardwood dance floor and palladium windows overlooking the bay.

The Chamberlin also can host smaller events in the Rooftop Solarium, Officer's Club or Piano Lounge. Although the venue sits on the Fort Monroe grounds, it is available to non-military guests.
