Park Service has eye on part of Fort MonroeAssociated Press - November 18, 2010 2:35 AM ET HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - The National Park Service has an interest in developing a portion of Hampton's historic Fort Monroe. The Daily Press of Newport News reported Wednesday that U.S. Sen. Jim Webb received a letter from a park service official, saying the primary interest is the historic core of Fort Monroe and the moat that borders the fortress. The possible designation is expected to be discussed Thursday when the Fort Monroe Authority meets. The meeting also includes an update from the Army, which is scheduled to leave the post in September 2011. Information from: Daily Press, http://www.dailypress.com |
