Fort Monroe AuthorityThe Fort Monroe Authority is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth to be governed by a 11-member Board of Trustees. Fort Monroe will cease to be an army base in 2011, and at that time the site will revert to the Commonwealth and become a state enclave, open to all. Among other duties, the Authority shall have the power to oversee the preservation, conservation, protection, and maintenance of the Commonwealth's real property interests at Fort Monroe and the renewal of Fort Monroe as a vibrant and thriving community. Virginia's Department of Historic Resources and the Department of Environmental Quality have major regulatory authority that influences the work.
The Fort Monroe Authority relies on the expertise of national consultants in the areas of BRAC law, environmental engineering, historic architecture and preservation planning, structural engineering, housing market analysis, commercial/retail analysis, public relations/marketing, and tourism planning. |
