As if being lucky enough to live by the sea was not enough, there is more.

Local annual events make the quality of life here special.

What do most of these events have in common?  They are free open to the public.

April

The International Children's Festival Discover the world during the 2011 International Children's Festival. Enjoy the rich array of sights, sounds, and tastes of distant lands that will captivate the senses of children and adults alike. Experience the beauty and wonder of exotic places as over thirty countries and cultures showcase their unique heritages. 2011 event is held on April 16, 2011 at the Mill Point Park in downtown Hampton from 10am to 5pm.

Saturday Summer Street Fest Every Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. � Hampton takes to the streets every Saturday night for a fun-filled street fair featuring live musical entertainment, cold refreshments, and plentyof activities for the young and old.

Downtown Hampton Farmers Market The Downtown Hampton Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the historic Queensway in Downtown Hampton. The market begins on Saturday. May 22nd and runs through September 4th. Local farms provide fresh produce, eggs, poultry, fish, meat and more. Other vendors include local artists, cut flowers, fresh baked breads and pastries, crafts, jams, jellies, soaps and candles. Other events during the market include beer & wine tasting, gardening seminars, cooking demonstrations and more. Activities are provided for children and live entertainment will be provided each week on Queensway while customers shop

Peninsula Pilots Baseball Season college players come from all over the country to live in Hampton during the summer and play ball. The games are held in Historic Peninsula War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia that was built in 1947. Just being there will trigger memories of a time when things moved a bit slower. When the Pilots play, we all get to experience the joy of watching the boys of summer with our friends and neighbors.

Music under the Stars The 76th season of the TRADOC Band's annual Music Under the Stars Summer Concert Series starts June 3rd with a rousing performance by the TRADOC Concert Band! Bring a blanket and a picnic basket and join us at Fort Monroe's beautiful Continental Park Gazebo where you'll enjoy a wonderful view of the bay and relaxing evening filled with great entertainment! All concerts are free and open to the public and begin at 7:00 p.m. If you do not possess a valid Dept. of Defense photo ID and a valid DoD Decal, you must obtain a temporary vehicle pass for the "Music Under the Stars" season. Visit Bldg 87 any time before a performance date to obtain a "Music Under the Stars" pass for quicker access to this summer's performances. Passes are available 24/7 and can be obtained with a valid Driver's license or photo I.D.

The Hampton Jazz Festival is always held during the last full weekend in June each year. 2010 dates are June 26, 27 & 28. Tickets to the 43rd Annual Hampton Jazz Festival are priced at $52.50 per seat, per day, plus service charge and handling fee where applicable. Tickets are on sale now, online at www.ticketmaster.com, charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000, at all VA, MD and DC Ticketmaster Outlets, and at the Hampton Coliseum Box Office.

Fourth at the Fort Fort Monroe's Annual July 4th Concert & Fireworks will feature country music artist, Jimmy Wayne on Sunday, July 4 from 5-11 p.m. at Fort Monroe's Walker Airfield.  Gates open at 5pm.  Spectacular fireworks display to follow the concert. Food and beverages available for purchase.  Free and Open to the Public.  Fort Monroe is an active Army Base, you must have government issued ID (drivers license or passport) for each person in the car. To enter Fort Monroe, your car must have current inspection, license tags, and registration. To obtain a entry pass for the Fort Monroe base, it is very helpful if you have your id and registration available and ready to show to the entry guard. 

July 9, 10 and 11, 2010

Set sail for the Blackbeard Pirate Festival where living history and family fun go hand-in-hand. Immerse yourself in 1780's Hampton with live entertainment, pirate camp, children's activities, sea battles, fireworks and more, as Hampton re-enacts and celebrates the demise of Blackbeard, one of the fiercest pirates ever known. It is held in historic downtown Hampton, along the waterfront, Mill Point Park and Queen Street.

The annual Hampton Cup Regatta is held from August 13, 14 & 15 2010

The Hampton Cup Regatta is the host this year to the North American Championships. This race is sanctioned by the UIM which is the world powerboat racing sanctioning body. So, where do people come to watch the races and how close are you to the actual action? Fort Monroe and the Mercury Boulevard Bridge the prime vantage points. The Mercury Boulevard Bridge is where many fans have gotten wet over the years from the huge rooster tails from the boats in the outside lanes. Go to: www.hamptoncupregatta.org

Hampton Bay Days is held in historic downtown Hampton, the weekend after Labor Day, every year. In 2010 dates: 09/10/2010 ends on 09/13/2010 This is a family oriented event that attracts people to Hampton while educating them about the importance of the Chesapeake Bay and its natural resources. Christmas

This annual tradition showcases all the local charm that makes Hampton one of America's best places to live. School bands march with pride in the Hampton Holly Days Parade, is held in December. The best viewing is on Settlers Landing Road in historic downtown Hampton.
